The Southern Jersey Shore USBC began from two great organizations in the local bowling scene: the Cape-Atlantic BA which
began in 1954 and the Tri-County WBA which began in 1959. Both of these organizations strived for excellence as Good Will Ambassadors for the sport of bowling in Atlantic, Cape May, and Cumberland County and did stellar jobs.
The first officers of the Tri-County WBA were:
Paula Carroll-President
Vera Donini-Vice-President
Evelyn Berner-Secretary
Leona Friedley-Treasurer
Dorothy Malone- Sgt. at Arms
The Cape Atlantic Bowling Associations served under the auspices of the American Bowling Congress until 2005 when the United States Bowling Congress was formed. The first officers of the Cape Atlantic BA under the newly merged USBC were:
Al Dobson-President
Shawn McCloud-1st Vice President
Bob Mazzotta-2nd Vice President
Norman Williams-Sgt. At Arms
The following individuals served as directors: Bob Brackin, Dawn Cirillo, Pat DeDomenicis, Lou DeDomenicis, Chuck Kittner, Herman Laing, George Lonkhart, Ray Otto, Lorraine Overcash, Martin Stephens, Brian Rodgers, Josh Kahnke, Dennis King, and Phil Epps. Julie Shumate was installed as Delegate to the USBC Convention and Martin Stephens was hired as Association Manager.
On July 26, 2012 the first meeting of the Merger Committee was held. The members of the Merger Committee were: Joey Gaynor (Chairman), Barbara Rodin (Recording Secretary), Julie Shumate, Martin Stephens, Brigitte Buie, and Richard Woehlcke. The committee set the groundwork in place for the merger to take place. After a number of meetings and document approvals from USBC, we were ready to make this dream a reality. On April 14 an end of an era happened as the final meetings for Cape Atlantic BA and Tri-County WBA were held and the first meeting of the Southern Jersey Shore USBC was conducted. During this meeting, elections took place and the inaugural board was chosen.
